HOTS: Overview


  • Higher Order Thinking or better known as Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTs)  is a concept of Education Reform
  • Involves complex thinking that goes beyond basic recall of facts.
  • Crucial to better prepare students for the challenges of adult work and daily life and advanced academic work
  • Based on learning taxonomies such as Bloom’s Taxonomy,  SOLO Taxonomy and/or Barrett’s Taxonomy of Reading Comprehension.
  • These taxonomies  are classification of levels of intellectual behaviour  which provide teachers clear learning objectives to be established in their pedagogical activities.
